For bookkeeping firms in Australia

Proven on Australian books. GST, the BAS and A$ from the start.

Pingtail was proven on an Australian QuickBooks Online company: its GST codes, its closing date and its accounts in A$.

The BAS is due on the 28th, and half your clients' September lines still sit in Ask My Accountant with a bank rule's GST code.

Pingtail asks with the BAS checklist, and shows the GST code on every line before you post.

  • Asks with the BAS checklist, due date from the ATO calendar
  • Shows the GST code each line keeps, before you post
  • Keeps to the closing date set in QuickBooks

The checklists built in for Australia: Monthly bookkeeping, 10 items; Business Activity Statement (BAS), 9 items, covering GST, PAYG withholding and PAYG instalments; Individual tax return; Company tax return and annual accounts.
The Post 1 line confirmation: TELSTRA BILL PAYMENT A$79 moves from Ask My Accountant to Telephone & internet expenses; the GST code stays GST on purchases; Cancel or Post 1 line.

How it works

A quarter in an Australian practice.

The words your clients and the ATO use, on every screen.

  1. Step 1: Ask for the BAS.

Pick the BAS checklist, and the due date is suggested from the ATO calendar: for the September quarter, 28 October.

Period and due date: for a BAS, use the filing period; due 28 October 2026, suggested from your country's calendar, Business Activity Statement (quarterly).
  2. Step 2: Every line with its GST code.

A suggestion names the account, the reason and the GST code the line keeps. Nothing posts before your press.

A suggestion for Harbour Cafe: Software, GST on purchases, 1 line, marked Check (a lower-confidence suggestion, not a tax flag): CANVA* SUBSCRIPTION A$17.99, with the reason Bank text matches CANVA, and Approve the 1.
  3. Step 3: Tie GST at month end.

GST Liabilities Payable sits with the bank and the other balance-sheet accounts, with your note of what you checked.

The September balance-sheet accounts of Harbour Cafe: Business Cheque, Savings, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, GST Liabilities Payable with a note of what you checked, and Suspense, each with its book balance and what it is compared to.

What stays in your control

Your clients' books, as they are.

Pingtail reads them, shows you the codes and posts only what you press.

  • The GST code, first.

Posting a line moves its account and leaves its GST code as it is. The confirmation says which code stays.

On the screenGST code stays: GST on purchases

  • Closed periods stay closed.

Pingtail reads the closing date before it writes, and a change to a closed period is refused.

On the screenThe books are closed up to 31 Aug: a date on or before it is refused before anything is sent.

  • A way back.

Every change to a line (its account, its GST code, a split) keeps its before and after, with an Undo. A new journal or expense is reversed in QuickBooks, not here.

On the screenUndo covers a mistake.

Who it is for

For small Australian practices.

  • Bookkeepers and BAS agents.

Monthly books and the quarterly BAS for small businesses, from one list of clients.

  • Clients on QuickBooks Online.

Lines read from the client's company and posted back on your press, in A$ with its GST codes.

  • Teams of one to a few.

Every client's month on one board, with who prepares it and who acts next.

Not what it does

  • Lodge the BAS. Pingtail collects and checks; you lodge it as you do today.
  • Connect to MYOB or Reckon.

Before you start

Questions from Australian firms.

Was it tested on Australian books?

Yes. Posting a line and its Undo, the closing-date refusal, a GST code change on a line and the accrual journals were proven on an Australian QuickBooks Online company in A$.

Does posting change a GST code?

No. The line keeps its GST code, and the confirmation shows it first. If it looks wrong, fix it on the line before you post.

Does it know the BAS dates?

It suggests the due date from the ATO calendar: 28 October, 28 February, 28 April and 28 July. You can change it on each request. Lodge through an agent? Change the date on the request; agent dates are not suggested yet.
